Video: Managing California’s Elections through COVID and Beyond

This post is part of a series reflecting on California’s experience of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic California has had three statewide elections—a primary, a general, and a gubernatorial recall—and many more local elections. Moreover, a number of reforms aimed at increasing voter participation have kicked in over the last few years—including the California Voter’s Choice Act (VCA), which expanded voting by mail before the pandemic. This year, California voters will choose candidates for state legislature, US Congress, and all California statewide elected offices.

In my conversation with California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber, I asked three key questions about our election process during this unique time and what to expect moving forward.
