James Cloern

James Cloern is an adjunct fellow at the PPIC Water Policy Center and a senior scientist emeritus at the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California. His research over four decades addresses comparative ecology and biogeochemistry of estuaries to understand how they respond as ecosystems to climatic and hydrologic variability and human disturbance. He is a fellow of both the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO). He is also a recipient of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s BH Ketchum Award, the Delta Science Program Brown-Nichols Achievement Award, the ASLO Ruth Patrick Award, the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation Odum Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Department of Interior’s Distinguished Service Award. He holds a PhD in zoology from Washington State University.
