Fred Blackwell

Fred Blackwell is CEO of the San Francisco Foundation (TSFF). In this role, he leads one of the largest community foundations in the country, working with donors, nonprofits, the community, business, and government partners to identify, influence, and leverage best practices and solutions to make a greater impact in the community. He served on the board of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Legacy Fund, is on the dean’s advisory council of the University of California Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, and currently serves on the board of Independent Sector and Northern California Grantmakers. Previously, he served as interim city administrator and assistant city administrator for the City of Oakland. He has served as executive director of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, director of the San Francisco mayor’s Office of Community Development, and director of the Making Connections Initiative for the Annie E. Casey Foundation. He was also a Multicultural Fellow at TSFF, subsequently managing a multi-year comprehensive community initiative for TSFF in West Oakland. He holds a master’s degree in city planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from Morehouse College.
