The PPIC Statewide Survey provides a voice for the public and likely voters—informing policymakers, encouraging discussion, and raising awareness on critical issues of the day. We envision California’s decision makers—including voters at the ballot box—taking bold action on the issues that matter the most to our state’s residents.

Our Work

The PPIC Statewide Survey delivers nonpartisan, objective, advocacy-free information on the perceptions, opinions, and public policy preferences of California residents. Our core audiences are policymakers, the media, and other engaged Californians. Key survey areas include:

• Californians and Their Government Examines social, economic, and political attitudes and tracks policy preferences of likely voters and all Californians.
• Californians and Education Looks at views of K–12 policies, with special attention to public school parents and likely voters.
• Californians and the Environment Investigates attitudes toward an array of environmental issues, from climate change to energy to drought, gauging related policy preferences.
• Californians and Their Economic Well-Being Examines views on the state’s current economy and future outlook as well as Californians’ attitudes toward their own work situation and financial standing.

Inaugurated in 1998, the PPIC Statewide Survey is widely known as a trusted source of public opinion in California. Surveys are conducted regularly throughout the year. PPIC relies on a rigorous survey methodology and is a charter member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research Transparency Initiative.

Our Advisory Committee

The PPIC Statewide Survey invites input, comments, and suggestions from its advisory committee, a diverse group of policy and public opinion experts. Survey methods, questions, and content are ultimately determined solely by PPIC’s survey team. The center operates under the direction of the PPIC president and board of directors.
