PPIC Statewide Survey: Californians and Their Government

Mark Baldassare, Jennifer Paluch, Dean Bonner, and Sonja Petek

Some findings of the current survey:

  • Seven in 10 Californians believe the state’s health care system needs major changes, and there is substantial support for both reform proposals now under consideration in Sacramento.
  • Half of residents say they approve of the job Arnold Schwazenegger is doing as governor, but only 34% approve of the job the California Legislature is doing.
  • Only 30 percent of Californians believe it is likely that a stable, democratic government will be established in Iraq.

This is the 80th PPIC Statewide Survey and the 25th in the Californians and Their Government series. This survey includes the responses of 2,003 Californians and is supported by The James Irvine Foundation. The intent of the series is to examine the social, economic, and political trends that influence public policy preference and ballot choices.
