PPIC Statewide Survey: Californians and Their Government

Mark Baldassare, Dean Bonner, Sonja Petek, and Jui Shrestha

Some findings of the current survey:

  • Most Californians favor the governor’s proposal to temporarily increase the state sales tax and raise income taxes on high earners.
  • Almost all Californians consider the state’s budget situation a serious problem.
  • With sharp cuts in state services possible in January, a strong majority are concerned about the effect of cuts on K-12 schools.
  • Residents are more hopeful about their own finances. Over half say their financial situations will improve in the coming year.
