Voluntary Contributions to California’s Public Schools

Though private fundraising in California schools has increased significantly since 1990, voluntary contributions make up a small share of overall K-12 funding. It will be instructive to track the dynamics of local fundraising under the state’s new school funding formula-which is designed to direct more funding to high-needs students.
