Hemal Kanzaria

Hemal Kanzaria, MD, MSc, is the Department of Care Coordination medical director at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) and an associate professor of emergency medicine at University of California, San Francisco, where he holds the Terry A. Patinkin, MD, Endowed Professorship and co-directs the section of Social Emergency Medicine and Health Equity. He is a faculty lead at the UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative, Core Faculty in the UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations, and affiliated faculty at the UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies and the California Policy Lab. His research focuses on patient engagement, health-related social needs, frequent users of the health care system, and delivery system transformation. A graduate of Brown University, UCSF School of Medicine, and the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health, his training includes an emergency medicine residency at UCSF/ZSFG. He is an alumnus of the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars program and the California Health Care Foundation Leadership Program, and is a practicing emergency physician at UCSF/ZSFG.
